Combatting antisemitism
What is antisemitism?
Introduction
In this blog post, I want to understand antisemitism and the anti-semitism legislation.
I want to understand why Jews attract such hatred, and why it's so persistent and widespread.
Definitions
Antisemitism is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that has plagued humanity for centuries. It is a form of prejudice, discrimination, and hatred directed at Jewish people, and it manifests in a variety of ways, from subtle stereotypes to violent attacks. Understanding antisemitism is crucial for combating it effectively, and it requires a nuanced approach that takes into account its historical, cultural, and social dimensions.
For example, common antisemitic tropes include:
- Jews control the media
- Jews control the banks
- Jews control the government
- Jews are greedy
These tropes are not new, and they have been used to justify violence and discrimination against Jews for centuries.
Why them?
Why do Jews attract such hatred?
For instance, there are no conspiracy theories about the Chinese controlling the media, or the Russians controlling the banks, or the Germans controlling the government. These conspiracy theories are unique to Jews.
Why do people come up with this specifically about Jews?
There's no Buddhist plot for world domination through subversion of Western institutions?
There's no Hindu plot for an open society through mass immigration and silencing of opposition?
If it's just nonsense racist vitriol, then why is it so persistent and widespread, and why doesn't it apply to everyone equally?
If I was a white supremacist, I would hate everyone equally, so why is there such a focus on Jews?
One explanation that is often offered is that Jews have achieved notable representation in certain professional fields, which some observers cite as a factor in the persistence of antisemitic myths.
Okay, lets investigate this idea: maybe Jews are superior, and we're all jealous, that's why they're targetted.
So, just to detour quickly, the Australian government just introduced a bill called the Combatting Antisemitism bill.
And what does it do? It bans inciting hatred towards a group of people, specifically mentioning the Jewish people.
Why is there such an emphasis on Jewish people?
The obvious answer, is the Holocaust, October the 7th, the Bondi attack.
But other people who are succesful aren't targeted like this.
Jordan Peterson's answer
Someone like Jordan Peterson answers this question with the following:
It's cain and abel.
Cain was a farmer, Abel was a shepherd.
Cain was resentful of Abel's success, and so he killed him.
The irony is, Jordan Peterson argues against the adoption of ideology, but he himself is an ideologue.
An ideologue of Cain and Abel.
Every event is reduced to the story of Cain and Abel and interpreted through that lens.
The Jewish Advantage
If we can't definitely say that all succesful groups are targeted like this, then the answer can't be that simple.
There's something else going on here.
Jewish representation
It's approximated that in the year 2012, there were 14.7 million Jews in the world.
That's about 0.2% of the world's population.
There were 39 Jewish people in the United States congress.
That's about 7% of the United States congress.
But Jews represent only about 2% of the population of the United States.
Some say this is due to a genetic advantage, others say it's due to a cultural advantage.
But the fact remains, that Jews are overrepresented in positions of power and influence, this is just one example.
The Jewish Intelligence
If we assume it's due to a genetic advantage, maybe we say the Jews are smarter than everyone else.
Then lets calculate if they are smarter using rough estimates.
Lets assume the total US population is about 300 million.
60% is white, so 180 million white people.
2% is Jewish, so 6 million Jewish people.
If Jews are genetically superior, then the average IQ of Jews should be higher than the average IQ of white people.
Let's say the average IQ of white people is 100.
Let's say the average IQ of Jews is 115.
For white populations, there are about 2.3% who are geniuses (130+ IQ).
- Which means there are about 4 million European geniuses in the United States.
For Jewish populations, there are about 15% who are geniuses (130+ IQ).
- Which means there are about 0.9 million Jewish geniuses in the United States.
So there are about 4 times as many White geniuses as there are Jewish geniuses.
If it were a meritocracy based only on genetic intelligence, then the probability of a Jew being in congress should be:
(6,000,000 / 300,000,000) * 100 = 2%
(115 / 100) * 2% = 2.3%
This is not 7%.
That's debunked.
Maybe it's a combination of both?
Does it matter?
Well, it doesn't matter, we just have to accept that's the way it is - Jews are succesful.
There's no conspiracy, there's no plot, there's no cabal.
But, why are we forced to live in multicultural societies? Why are we even dealing with this question?
Multiculturalism
There's bascially not a single Western country that isn't multicultural.
And there's bascially not a single non-Western country that isn't multicultural.
And Jews are prominent supporters of multiculturalism.
For example, take a look at what the Australian Israel and Jewish Affairs Council said about multiculturalism:
"AIJAC is committed to a non-discriminatory immigration poicy, and is strongly opposed to quotas, targets, or restrictions on immigration based on either religion, or ethnicity, including any such policies directed against Muslims."
– Mark Leibler, Chair of AIJAC
Jews, wherever they are, prominently support not just judeo-christian cooperation, but widespread multiculturalism via their political influence and lobbying groups. Not all of them, but a significant portion of them.
Assimilation
It seems quite strange to me that a country would suddenly throw open its borders and welcome in people from all over the world, with different cultures, different values, and different beliefs and not ask them to assimilate.
Could you imagine if we woke up tomorrow, and suddenly China was 50% African, 20% Middle Eastern, and 30% South Asian?
One might spin their head around in confusion, and ask, "What the fuck is going on?" and "Will China ever come back?".
The Jewish Influence on Multiculturalism
At the beginning of Australian Multicultralism, a report was commissioned by the government to determine the future of Australian cultural policy.
"The Jewish activist Walter Lippmann, for the influential Committee on Community Relations delivered a report to the Australian Parliament in 1975 which placed “multiculturalism” at the heart of Australian government policy. It recommended that Australian social policy be formulated on the basis of four key elements. One of these recommendations, as summarised by the Jewish academic Andrew Markus, was that: “legislation was required to outlaw racial discrimination and uphold and promote rights through the establishment of a human rights commission.”
– Brenton Sanderson
There's signficant evidence to suggest that Jewish people are motivated by their own self awareness that they are Jewish, and that they are different from everyone else.
There's no fault to that, a protestant Christian who is aware of the threats they face, maybe from Catholics, would want the right to self-determination and would not be willing to give up their faith or culture.
This is not to say that all Jewish people are motivated by this, but it is a common trait among Jewish people.
If these Jews are superior, culturally or racially, it might be inevitable that they end up in positions of power over different races, via lobbying or other means, but why are they protected legislatively against hate speech?
There is such a harsh reaction against antisemitism in the western world, but not against anyone else? We don't tolerate potentially wrong or rude theories about these people being spread in public.
If the motto is never again will we repeat the Holocaust, then are we all potential waiting Nazis?
If people get the wrong idea then will we murder all the Jews?
How likely is that to happen?
Do people believe in murdering more than they believe in the truth?
Are we a people who get angry about a theory, and don't care to seek the truth?
On one hand, we're so tolerant and progressive that we accept multiculturalism, but on the other hand, we're so dangerous and regressive that we can't organise in ways that may cause someone fear of hate.
We accept individuals of every other culture, since they all support multicultralism too, yet they don't have it in their own countries. If it was so advantageous why don’t they implement it in their own country? Why would there be resistance? Surely it’s not that whole world racist and we’re not? That sounds a bit extraordinarily progressive.
I guess we only have the best and brightest, but who knows what they'll support in 30 years.
The obvious emphasis on Jewish protection
Why wasn’t the Australia law reform the Anti-Sikhism bill?
There's 900,000 Indians in Australia, and 100,000 Jews in Australia.
Surely anti-indian sentiment is more prevalent in Australia than anti-jewish sentiment?
Why do we care so much about the tragedies of the Jews but not of the Indians?
The clear goal of this new combating antisemitism bill is to make criticising Jews illegal.
Also, ironically, it protects Muslims from generalised criticisms, insofar as criticising Jews sand Muslims may cause harassment or spread hate.
So the Albanese’s government response to Bondi was to make criticising both groups illegal.
Criticisms
The Australian Attorney-General Michelle Rowland was question on the ABC's 7.30 program about the bill.
She was unable to say whether supporting an anti-genocide movement was a crime under these new laws.
There was no definitive answer to whether criticising the state of Israel could be considered a hate crime.
Learn more from The Australia Institute.
It was stated that the bill was an answer to destabilising democracy.
But how does criticising a group of people destabilise democracy?
Spreading hate may be offensive, but there's no obvious reason why it's a threat to democracy.
Do people like to join in on hate speech?
Are the people receiving hate speech the ones who destabilise democracy?
If someone never hears a hateful word in their life are they less likely to commit aggressive acts?
There's so many assumptions in this bill, and it's not clear that they're true – I wouldn't personally call you a conspiracy theorist for questioning if there's a different motive, given the circumstances.
Did we solve it?
The country is now free of harrassment, hate, and hate-groups.
I appreciate Jewish contributions to science, but I can't understand where the obsession with them comes from, and every explanation once you scratch the surface seems to feel more like wool over the eyes.
I'm not saying that Jews are bad, but I'm saying that we should be allowed to question things.
And just because someone is hated, doesn't mean that they're innocent.
It's rare to meet someone who holds a hatred of a random specific group for no legitmate reason.
Dismissing everyone who criticises Jews as antisemitic is a form of bigotry.
Maybe we should listen more, not spread hate, but action decisions based on multiple perspectives.
I think it feels like to many people, we're supposed to tolerate other cultures, but not our own ideas.
What did the Australian people have to gain by supporting a policy of multicultralism that weakens their own democracy?
